Day 1: Pick up from Nairobi and head to masai mara via Great Rift Valley Landscape that stretches from Nairobi to Masai Mara Reserve; afternoon game drive
Your three-day vacation to Kenya’s Masai Mara safari starts today! Your safari driving guide will meet you at your Nairobi hotel at by 8:00am
Following a brief tour orientation, you will travel six hours or so west to Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the most well-known wilderness places in Africa, passing spectacular vistas of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha, and Mount Longonot.
The 1510 km² Masai Mara region in Kenya is home to amazing, expansive views and lush riverine forests that trace the meandering paths of the Mara and Talek rivers. Its allure is evident just a single look. It is a traditional African savannah reserve with an abundance of incredible wildlife, including over 470 bird species and among of the continent’s greatest populations of lion, leopard, hyena, and cheetah.
Lions are frequently observed either surveying the plains for their next meal or basking in the aftermath of a hearty feast. But the main event here is the Great Migration, which takes place every year from July to October. In quest of better pastures, over 2.5 million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles travel across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara. If you’re fortunate enough to see it, it will stick in your memory.
After arriving in the afternoon, you will check in, have lunch, unwind, and then go on an exhilarating drive. You plan to remain outdoors until dusk, when it is hoped that you will come across some predators, who tend to become more active during this period.

A full-day wildlife drive and a bush picnic lunch will be enjoyed close to the magnificent Mara River, where you may take in the breathtaking sight of massive Nile crocodiles relaxing on the muddy, brown riverbanks. The undulating grasslands of the Mara provide excellent spots for photography and game viewing, and the grassy plains are interrupted by rocky outcrops that serve as lions’ preferred midday resting spots.
If you happen to be there during the Great Migration, keep an eye out for thousands of zebras, gazelles, and wildebeest as well as elephants, buffalo, black rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, hyaenas, hippos, giraffes, elands, topis, impalas, warthogs, jackals, bat-eared fox, serval, and honey badgers. You return to the lodge later in the afternoon for some relaxation.
Visit a traditional Maasai hamlet in the evening to learn about the culture of the Masai people and maybe take in a cultural dance. The Masai Mara Game Reserve is named after the Maasai people, who are the area’s original occupants. Their description of the area from a distance is also included in the reserve’s name. The Maasai term “Mara,” meaning “spotted,” accurately characterizes the area’s circles of trees, savanna, brush, and cloud shadows.
These people’s rich traditional culture and heritage have enthralled tourists for decades. You will meet people from the neighborhood, see how they live on a daily basis, and discover their customs and beliefs.
