Since opening in 1976, the camp has taken home numerous honors and been highly recommended by both seasoned and first-time safari visitors. The camp has a reputation for excitement and adventure that starts even before you arrive. Lions and elephants frequent the nearby airfield. You never know what kind of fauna you could encounter when you get there. Reaching the camp itself is an exciting adventure that continues even after you leave the airstrip. The camp is accessible by a quick boat journey across the Mara River and a short stroll through the trees. It is situated on the fringe of the Masai Mara National Reserve. There is a strong tropical vibe to the region around Little Governor’s. Broad, open meadows and dense riverine forests encircle the camp. The front decks of each of the camp’s seventeen safari tents are perfectly positioned to allow guests to observe the surrounding wildlife as it comes to the well-liked waterhole. Waders and a variety of waterbirds frequent the little island located in the center of the waterhole. A joy for avian enthusiasts.

The amenities provided by the camp itself are stunning, in addition to the surrounding natural splendor. Large tented lounges and a dining area with tiled flooring, cozy sofas, and substantial oak coffee tables are features of the camp’s common areas. To keep the space cozy and toasty in the evening, a log fire is lighted in front of the bar tent. Lanterns cast a gentle glow over the remaining common areas. Together with serving up delectable mocktails and nibbles, the camp’s bar is a great spot to share safari tales with other guests and your Masai guides. A modest gift shop with a gallery of images depicting animals and natural history is also available at the site.

Every tented suite at Little Governors is roomy and well-equipped with everything you would need for a relaxing and pleasurable stay. The camp’s seventeen enormous walk-in tents are arranged beneath the forest canopy along the lagoon’s edge, offering a view of the waterhole and the distant, towering Olooloo Escarpment. The farthest tents are situated roughly 250 meters away from the communal areas, while some of the tents are situated rather near to them. Each tent is the same width, measuring about three meters. A few rugs cover the polished wooden decks and floors of the tents, which are equipped with director’s chairs, comfortable sofas, a folding front deck table, a compact writing/dressing table, and a baggage rack. The opulent en suite bathrooms in the tent suites feature flushing toilets and hot and cold running water. Eco-friendly solar water heaters are used to produce hot water. Additionally, solar energy is used to provide continuous power for the tent’s power outlets. Each tent has an environmentally friendly reverse osmosis purification system providing filtered drinking water.

Delightful meals are cooked all day and served in the dining tent at night as well as outdoors throughout the day. The camp is illuminated with gas, kerosene, and traditional candles as dusk draws in, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere.

Whether you choose to eat by the fire under the stars, have lunch under the shade of an African ebony tree, or have breakfast on the banks of the nearby lagoon, you will always be able to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and the hippos, buffalos, and even a family of warthogs that like to wander around the camp. Every morning, the camp serves a full English breakfast buffet that includes pastries, bread, fruit, cereals, and other delectable delicacies. Lunch is typically served buffet-style, with a selection of delectable meals such rice, baked breads, curries, moussaka, and salads with dressings of your choosing. Finally, there’s always a delicious dessert to cap it all off. Meals at Little Governors’ are always delicious and provide options for meat, fish, or vegetarianism. There’s always something delicious cooking in Little Governor’s kitchen, with menu items including roasted pumpkin quiche, Mongolian BBQ, vegetable risotto, and desserts like sticky banana cake with toffee sauce or a Kenyan cheese platter.
